There was a rumour doing rounds that a search algorithm update took place, and now it has been confirmed by Google. The update has affected the ranking of websites -increasing ranking of some sites while others have witnessed adverse changes.
Google posted on Twitter saying that it has released a “broad core algorithm update” last Monday. It is a reminder that Google “routinely” does updates “throughout the year”.
According to Google, these updates happen “several times per year” and “some sites may note drops or gains,” a site can’t do much to improve its rankings. The owners should concentrate on improving the site quality, and it is possible that the site will be awarded.
The “pages that were previously under-rewarded” will see a benefit from these updates.
Stating about the update, Google has said,
Google rolls out one or more updates each day to improve search result. While some of the updates are focussed on to make specific improvements, and others are for broad changes. This week update is a broad core algorithm update, which is done several times a year.
As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded.
If your website got affected by this update, there are no quick fixes. The ideal way is to remain focused on building excellent contents which would help to perform better than others in future.
Google’s confirmation of the update came on Monday.
