Google mandates iD proofs for US political ads

Google has announced that political advertisers need to provide a government-issued ID and other information to prove they are US citizens or legal permanent residents. Even Facebook has also introduced transparency tools for its political ads. It also follows the increased data privacy laws in the form of the General Data Protection regulation, rules that affect the handling of European Union User’s Data.

Google will also issue a new election-ad-focussed Transparency Report which will consist of the list of buyers of election-related ads on Google platforms.
